For many people, the meaning of emerald is as a birthstone for those who were born in the month of May. In astrological terms, emerald is the gemstone associated with the Signs of the Zodiac Cancer, Taurus and Gemini. It is also traditional to give emerald as a gift to mark the 20th, 35th and 55th wedding anniversaries.
There are those who believe in the power of emerald to heal the heart, and that when there is a full moon the stone has its greatest healing power. It is also believed by some people to have the power to heal the eyes, lungs, muscles and spine.

Emeralds were also believed to help with speech and the ability to see the truth.
